The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT; in Japanese "Monbukagakusho") of Japan offers Tanzanian students 4 types of scholarship to study at Japanese universities or colleges: Research students, Undergraduate Students, Specialized Training College Students and Japanese Studies Students.
For scholarship in 2015, follow the guideline below for each scholarship and apply by Monday 16th June 2014 either by post or by hand addressed to the culture section.

Tentative Schedule 2014-2015
  • 16 June (Mon): Deadline for application
  • 11 July (Fri): Paper examination and interview
  • 25 July (Fr): Final interview
  • 29 August (Fri): Deadline for receiving "Letter of Acceptance" from Japanese universities
  • February 2015: Announcement of final result
  • March 2015: Orientation
  • April(September/October) 2015: Departure to Japan


    1. Research Students

    2. *3 students sent to Japan annually

      1. Duration: 2 Years (including 6 months of Japanese language training), extendable with permission from the university and Japanese Government (Duration will be extended accordingly to the length of course, Normally in Japan, Master courses are two years, PhD are three years (four years for medical, dentistry, veterinary and some pharmaceutical courses)).
      2. Departure for Japan: April or September / October 2015
      3. Age: Applicant must have been born on or after 2 April 1980
      4. Qualification: Applicant must have graduated from undergraduate studies

    3. Undergraduate Students

    4. *Unfortunately no Tanzanian student has passed the screening for several years.

      1. Duration: 5 Years (including 1 year of Japanese language training) or 4 Years (without Japanese language training), 7 Years for medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine and pharmacy (with 6 years course) (including 1 year of Japanese language training)
      2. Departure for Japan: April 2015
      3. Age: Applicant must have been born between 2 April 1993 and 1 April 1998
      4. Qualification: Applicant must have graduated from A Level Secondary School by March 2015

    5. Specialized Training College Students

    6. *Unfortunately no Tanzanian student has passed the screening for several years.

      1. Duration: 3 Years (including 1 year of Japanese language training)
      2. Departure for Japan: April 2015
      3. Age: Applicant must have been born between 2 April 1993 and 1 April 1998
      4. Qualification: Applicant must have graduated from A Level Secondary School by March 2015

    7. Japanese Studies Students

    8. Recruitment will be done through the University of Dodoma for the students taking Japanese language course.
