GENEVA: INTERNSHIP AT THE GCHRAGD

The Geneva Centre is seeking highly qualified and dedicated interns to assist in its activities.
Our internships provide candidates with an invaluable opportunity to participate in meetings of the UN bodies and agencies, particularly of the Human Rights Council. This allows insight into multilateral negotiations, as well as UN decision-making processes.
At the Geneva Centre, interns are given a real chance to work as part of our team, be exposed to high-profile conferences, participate in meetings, and contribute to analytical work as well as organizational policy of the Geneva Centre. The internship also offers excellent networking opportunities.

Position: Full-time unpaid internship
Duration: 3-6 months
Start date: as soon as possible

Responsibilities:
  • Researching and writing on critical human rights issues;
  • Contributing to the substantive preparation of meetings, side-events and training programmes;
  • Contributing to the implementation of projects of collaboration;
  • Attending relevant meetings and working groups at the UN;
  • Drafting concise reports on meetings;
  • Writing briefings and providing background information;
  • Assisting in all media and communication-related outcomes, such as newsletter, press releases, Facebook and Twitter updates, etc.

Requirements:
  • Fluency in English is required. Strong knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in international relations, international law or human rights is required.
  • Familiarity with the United-Nations’ bodies and, more particularly, with the Human Rights Council is high desirable.
  • Prior coursework/academic background and/or practical experience in the field of human rights is desirable.
  • Strong writing, drafting and computer skills are necessary.
  • The ability to work as part of a team as well as independently is required.

Conditions:
  • Duration: Interns are expected to serve for a minimum of three and a maximum of six months. Interns are expected to work for a minimum of 40 weekly hours.
  • Compensation: Internships are on a strictly unpaid basis. All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns or their sponsoring institutions.
  • Visa: Interns are responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas.
  • Medical insurance: Interns are responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship and must show proof of a valid major global medical insurance coverage.
  • Confidentiality: Interns must be discreet and keep confidential any unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.
